What Is a Dedicated IP?

A dedicated IP is an IP address assigned exclusively to a single user, account, or server. Unlike a shared IP, which is used by many different users simultaneously, a dedicated IP belongs to one entity alone.

Dedicated IPs are common in web hosting, where businesses running high-traffic websites or handling sensitive transactions may want an address that isn’t affected by the behavior of other users. With a shared IP, if another user on the same address engages in spamming or other abuse, it can damage the reputation of the entire address, potentially causing emails to be flagged or access to be blocked.

Some VPN providers also offer dedicated IP options. A standard VPN typically routes many users through the same IP, but a dedicated IP gives a single user a consistent, private address. This is useful for accessing services that flag or block traffic from addresses associated with high volumes of users.

From a trust and consistency standpoint, a dedicated IP behaves more predictably than a shared IP, making it a practical choice for businesses that rely on stable, recognizable connections.
