Plenty of Fish Search: 5 Ways to Find Someone on POF

These tips and tools will help you find someone on POF.

Plenty of Fish (POF) is a popular Canadian dating site. Until the last update, you could go on the site and look up any person you wanted to find, as long as you had their username. Now, it’s not as easy to find someone on POF. Things have gotten a little tricky. You can’t look someone up without having a profile on the app yourself, and even then it takes a little effort to weed out everyone you don’t want.

Now it’s a long, cumbersome journey just to make sure our partners aren’t cheating or to match with our crush. The process is harder because of scammers and catfishers, but not everyone is out for blood on dating sites, right? The POF search might have become harder to run, but luckily there are still ways you can find someone there.

In this article, you’ll find some of the most useful tips and tricks in the book to help you find someone on POF.

1. Decide Whether to Stay Hidden or Not

If you’re looking for a cheating partner or checking for a catfish, chances are they wouldn’t want to be found. They could simply hide their profile or leave the app completely if they find you before you find them.

In cases like these, the best course of action is to make a profile with limited information about yourself while you perform your search. If you’ve been married for a while and are just tentatively stepping back into the dating game after a divorce, remember that you don’t have to put everything about yourself on your profile.

Other things you might want to leave out of your profile if you want to stay anonymous on POF:

  • Familiar usernames.
  • Easily recognizable photos, not just of you but of your pets, places you frequent, and even photos where your face might be hidden but you would be easily recognizable to someone close to you.
  • Too many breadcrumbs. They might not connect the dots if you just have the name of your workplace on POF, but the name of your workplace coupled with a few other details that are unique to you might make any cheating partner suspicious.

2. Basic and Advanced Searches

Not all POF users can make use of this feature, but the investment can be worth it if you’re really in a jam.

The basic search option is pretty easy to find inside the app. You can use it to look for whoever you want via username, location, education, and many of the other search features that were previously available to everyone.

You can filter results according to age, workplace, zip code, and location. Keep in mind though that people do tend to lie about their age if they’re older. They may even lie about other basic information like pets and education.

When you know what you’re looking for, an advanced search might be the difference between finding the person you want or not. With this option, not only can you change preferences for location and education but even eye color, pets, body type, ethnicity, and dating intent. Remember, though, people are sometimes dishonest about looking for something casual. They may still act like they want to date someone or establish a long-term connection.

If you click on the POF logo on the top left of your screen, you can activate “my matches.” This will keep matching you with suitable profiles over time. This search is passive, and you might not be able to find anyone right away, but it can still be useful.

Perhaps the most useful part of this feature is that you can choose to not match with anyone you’ve contacted before. This means that you won’t keep seeing the same kind of people over again and be able to find the right person eventually.

4. Activate “My City”

If you’re not having much luck finding someone on POF, you can activate the “my city” option in your location settings. It will narrow your search down a bit. This can only work if you’re positive that the person you’re looking for doesn’t live in a different city, though.

After this, any searches you make and all the profiles you’re shown or are matched with will be from your own city or selected geographical range.

5. Run a Reverse Search with Social Catfish

If all else fails, you can always resort to getting help from Social Catfish and run a reverse image search. Sites like this cost little money to use, and will scour the entire internet to find results from your image.

That’s not all. You can even perform a search by username, birth or married name, and even their email addresses. Their search specialists will do everything in their power to find someone on POF – or any other site.
