What this DNSbl says about itself
The DNSBL at abuseat.org uses large spam traps and email infrastructures to list only open proxies and spam bots that are dedicated to sending spam only. This means that the CBL will only lists IP addresses that have attempted to send email to one of the abuseat servers in a way that indicates the sending IP is either infected or is dedicated solely to send out spam. Their listing criteria are not made public as, “it may give spammers or virus writers hints on how to avoid the CBL” In addition, there is no reason given to sites whom end up on the list as to why they did. To counteract this, there is an automated no-questions-asked removal procedure that allows any listed website to quickly and easily remove their IP address. However, even after they are removed they can be listed again if new spam activity is detected.
Mail server administrators should never implement blacklists unless they are 100% sure of what they are doing. Misconfiguration can result in all incoming mail being blocked.
