SpamCannibal

SpamCannibal is a Linux-based DNSBL that uses a constantly updated database of spamming IP addresses to block incoming spam at the source. It accomplishes this by using s specifically designed tarpit that not only delays incoming connections to a site like traditional pits do, but also makes incoming spammer servers resend their messages over and over again in the hopes of overloading the server and crashing it.

The DNSBL is populated in three ways. Firstly and most directly, users can send spam emails they receive to SpamCannibal’s mail filter that will take the IP address from the message and add it to the tarpit. Secondly, it can also use a remote DNSBL to identify sites, and lastly users themselves can set up an automated email server to help relay spam messages to the tarpit. Additionally, SpamCannibal considers all unsolicited email sent to there servers as spam.
